Proverbs 17 - Better To Listen Than Talk

Proverbs 17:27,28
"He that hath knowledge spareth his words: and a man of understanding is of a excellent spirit. Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding."

Well I'm actually writing this a day late. I didn't have as much time yesterday to write in my blog. But this is advice that when I read it I thought I aught to write about. You know, it seems like everywhere you go, everybody not only has an opinion, but they want to make sure that everybody else knows about it.

To be honest this is something that I'm trying to work on myself. I talk way too much. When it comes right down to it, most of us really don't know as much as we would like to think we do. And we don't know as much as we would, if we would only listen and consider what we hear.

Listening instead of talking can benefit us in different ways. First there is the benefit of hearing new information. There is alot of information that a person can pick up if they are just willing to listen. There is no telling how much good information has passed you and I by, unnoticed, just because we were either using that time talking, or not really listening because we were thinking of what we were going to say when our turn came.

I'm not saying that everything we would hear is good information. But I have learned that sometimes you can pick up valuable knowledge even when hearing bad information. This mainly comes about when what you hear doesn't seem to make sense, so you check it out, or the fact that your not convinced causes you to think about the problem.

Another advantage in life, especially if you are in business is, listening makes you look knowledgeable, or wise. Proverbs 17 tells us that "He that hath knowledge spareth his words" and "Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise." So this is a habit that will benefit you immediately in making you appear knowledgeable and after time, as you learn more and more the appearance will become a reality.
