What If They Will Not Listen?
Ezekiel 3:18 When I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; and thou givest him not warning, nor speakest to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life; the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand.
Today I would like to look at an obligation that every Christian has, but that many tend to ignore. As Christians we have been given the Great Commission by Jesus Christ himself. I know that many Christians like to think that witnessing for Christ is a gift. We need to realize up front that this is a great misconception. Being a witness for Christ is not a gift, it is an obligation. When Jesus said to "be witnesses unto me," it was not a recomendation, it was a command. Here in Ezekiel we see God's attitude toward the Christian who does not take their obligation seriously.
We see here that he tells Ezekiel that when he tells him to warn the wicked that they are going to die, if he doesn't do it, then when they die, their blood will be required at Ezekiel's hand. So what has this got to do with us? Well, God has commanded us to warn others that they are in danger. Because of their sin, they are on their way to hell, and it is our job to warn them. If we don't take this seriously, and we neglect to do it, then when they die and go to hell, their blood will be on our hands.
You might say, "well I would talk to him about it, but he wouldn't listen anyway." First of all, you don't know that. You might suspect it, but you don't know it for a fact. Secondly, what if you did. Let's look at what God tells Ezekiel in chapter 3 verse 7.
Ezekiel 3:7 But the house of Israel will not hearken unto thee; for they will not hearken unto me: for all the house of Israel are impudent and hardhearted.
So here God just plainly tells Ezekiel that he is sending him to give Israel his warning. He then tells him up front that they are not going to listen to anything that he tells them. It is not going to make a bit of a difference in what they do. When Ezekiel tells them that God says they are going to die, they are just going to get mad at him and then die anyway because they won't change. But by the way, verse 18 says, if Ezekiel doesn't warn them, their blood will be on his hands.
Now like I said, God has not informed you of anybody that is not going to listen to you when you witness to them. But even if he did, as we see in this passage from the Bible, it would not excuse you from warning them about hell.
